Many college sports teams choose to support one or more charities throughout the year. These may be charities they support on a routine basis or charities that need their assistance for a one-time fundraiser. Regardless of the charity, you may find yourself in a position to make a large donation. If this is the case, you may also not know what is the ideal way to make your donations. Here are some of the ways to donate to college athletes throughout the year or on a routine seasonal basis.

Insurance Donations

You may have several insurance policies or one large one. Though you will likely sign that insurance over to a loved one or spouse you leave behind, there are other options. You can include your college sports team charity in the breakdown of who will inherit the policy funds. You can have a portion or the full amount, depending on the policy type and restrictions. When you pass on the insurance will be signed over the College and the charity you specify.

Monthly Auto Withdrawal Donations

You may have a specified amount you want to donate each month. For example, you may want to donate $50 a month to the charity. You can work this out with the college team financial advisor. They can help you agree to the monthly donation. They can also set up the payments to withdraw automatically on a specified date a month. On that date, the credit card or checking account will be billed for the amount you choose. This can be set up for several months or until you decide to discontinue the payments.

One Time Gift

You may find that you have received a large sum of money. This could be from a death in your family, settlement, or another event. Out of this sum of money, you may want to donate a large amount as a one-time gift to the college team charity. You can do this by contacting the college and discussing the payment with the college charity representative. They will work with you regarding the amount and any paperwork they may need from you.

When you are ready to donate to your college sports team charity, contact their representative. If you are planning a long-term support effort or if you want to give a one-time payment through your final life insurance policy, let them know. They will be able to tell you how to make your charity donations. They can also set up ongoing or recurring payments if necessary.
